William Morris was born in Walthamstow, Greater London, the son of William Morris, a successful business man, and Emma Shelton Morris. He attended Marlborough College in 1848-51 and in 1853 he entered Exeter College, Oxford, where he met Edward Burne-Jones and Charles Faulkner.
